Frankincense is one of my favorite oils! I use it on my skin for anti-aging, and several of my blends for calming, for immune support And for cellular
Frankincense essential oil is obtained from the dried and distilled resin of the Frankincense tree, which is native to specific regions of Africa and the Middle East. Considered to be a “pure incense,” it was the most desirable of all the other types of incense.
Used in aromatherapy, its sedative and comforting fragrance are believed to strengthen and invigorate the respiratory system. It can be used cosmetically, medicinally, and for eliminating surface and airborne bacteria.
It is believed to reduce feelings of anxiety and to stimulate the immune system. Pinene is known to strengthen and invigorate the respiratory system and is reported to have diuretic properties based on empirical evidence. Borneol contributes tonic, anesthetic, sedative and anti-spasmodic properties to this oil.
It stimulates the growth of new cells, thus when used on cuts, it promotes faster healing. It’s sweet, woody aroma is sedative and enhances mood by diminishing feelings of stress and anxiety while improving concentration and memory.
It helps to disinfect and tighten the pores, thereby promoting the speedy healing of cuts, wounds, and scars. It is used to relieve flatulence, stimulate the growth of new skin cells, and stimulate blood flow and circulation among other competencies.
The following highlights its many benefits and the kinds of activity it is believed to show:
The Frankincense essential oil can be added to a diffuser or vaporizer and inhaled for its sedative, earthy fragrance known to enhance the stress and anxiety and mood. A few drops of Frankincense can kill airborne bacteria when applied to a diffuser or mixed with water to create an air freshening spray. Sprayed in a bedroom at night, it can help achieve a state of relaxation and readiness for sleep.
It can be used topically with a carrier oil. In a relaxing bath, a few drops of the oil can be added to relieve stress. It’s used in cosmetics to produce natural homemade anti-aging facial serums by combining Frankincense with other essential oils and diluting the mixture. It is sometimes used in shampoos and is supposed to help strengthen hair roots.
This anti-septic oil makes a natural homemade cleaner and disinfectant to cleanse indoor environments, eliminate harmful bacteria therein, and to deodorize any rooms in the home. Mixed with baking soda and lemon essential oil, it makes a scrubbing substance that can be used to absorb grease and leave the area unsoiled and aromatic. To use it with a dishcloth, it can be blended with water and Thyme essential oil to wipe down surfaces like countertops.
Frankincense does have emmenagogue properties, which can induce menstruation that can be harmful to a fetus. So pregnant women are advised against using straight Frankincense essential oil. Pregnant and nursing women who insist on using it are advised to first seek the medical guidance of a physician or midwife. The oil should always be stored in an area that is inaccessible to children, or they might end up wasting your precious oil.
I love Frankincense! This oil is a good general oil to get into, and I love to add it to most blends for additional support in whatever I’m making the blend for. I also like to combine with lavender to help with skin irritations, scrapes, etc. – Heather J., Lawrenceburg, IN

The king of oils!!!! This oil does everything except pay my bills lol. I use it for my health, in my beauty regime and I diffuse it in my home. The smell is very woodsy and strong but at the same time very calming. Doterra is an incredible company that tests extensively all their oils for contaminations and they have high quality control standards. I add a few drops into my skin care products for its anti aging effects. I take internally 1 drop of oil in a veggie capsule for my overall health. I diffuse it in my home to help with my anxieties and for my lung health. I even use this oil in my sons diaper cream. The list goes on and on !!! If you don’t already have this oil I would suggest you buying it! – Sophie G., Ottawa
