The same month Raquel was diagnosed with a terminal illness, her little sister Lily, turned 8 years old, and shortly thereafter, Lily was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Lily wanted Raquel to speak at her special event. There are two ordinances that happen when a child takes this step. They are baptized by immersion, just as was Jesus Christ in the New Testament, and they receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, which is also spoken of in the book of Acts. This is done with the priesthood of Jesus Christ, which has been restored to the earth in these latter days. We baptize children at an age when they can be accountable for their actions.
And so, Raquel agreed to give a talk at Lily’s baptism on the topic of the Holy Ghost. It was sweet to find the talk she had written, which was on her google drive, and read it after she had passed away. It gave comfort to my heart. Here is the talk she gave.
Lily, today you will receive an amazing gift called the Gift of the Holy Ghost. This is one of the most valuable and precious gifts you will ever receive. “The Holy Ghost works in perfect unity with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, fulfilling several roles to help us live righteously and receive the blessings of the gospel.
He “witnesses of the Father and the Son” and reveals and teaches “the truth of all things” (Moroni 10:5). We can receive a sure testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ only by the power of the Holy Ghost. His communication to our spirit carries far more certainty than any communication we can receive through our natural senses.
As we strive to stay on the path that leads to eternal life, the Holy Ghost can guide us in our decisions and protect us from physical and spiritual danger.”
A scripture mastery, reads, “And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.”
“You can receive this great blessing—to become familiar with the still, small voice and learn that this voice will tell you all things that you must do. The word we use to describe this communication is promptings, the way we feel. These promptings can come many times, through many experiences. That is the voice of the Lord speaking.”
Jesus said, “I will not leave you comfortless. … But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
“The comforting Spirit of the Holy Ghost can abide with us twenty-four hours a day: when we work, when we play, when we rest. Its strengthening influence can be with us year in and year out. That sustaining influence can be with us in joy and sorrow, when we rejoice as well as when we grieve.”
I know that if you are accepting of this gift, if you lead a righteous life and are always open to the spirit, you will be blessed with promptings and comfort and answers to whatever questions you may have whenever you have them. You will not feel alone, the Holy Ghost is your friend and as long as they’re welcome, they will always be with you. I testify that this is true, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Raquel had a strong testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s evident in her words, actions, and the number of people who loved her. I’m so grateful for for that!
Thanks for reading. I hope this gives you comfort, as it has given to me 🙂

Thank you for sharing this story of your children with me. What a beautiful young girl and how special to leave her testimony with her little sister and her family.
❤️❤️❤️
Raquel has been a good daughter of you, Jenni. The words are simple, but I can feel the sincerity, love, and great faith in her words. I may not be at this time when she talked about it, but it struck my heart and felt the power of the Holy Ghost as if I was around that time. It comforts me and feels the love of the Savior during this time of difficult events in the whole world.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful story of two incredible young people! It gives me hope and teaches the power of love! We are so blessed by the gospel and to know families are forever! God bless you and your family!
Thank you, Wanda. I’m so glad. God bless you too!
Raquel was such an amazing person. Although I have never met her in her writings and the way she courageously faught her brain tumor I just found such amazing inspiration, courage and strength in her. What a beautiful Angel she was on earth and she is also a beautiful Angel in Heaven. Love you Jenni and family
Love you too, Debbi!
