doTERRA’s Co-Impact Sourcing

doTERRA’s Co-Impact Sourcing. Most the industry uses middle men. It’s the traditional way. The middle men make promises about quality, but they are trying to make money too. In Guatemala and other countries, these middlemen are called “coyotes.” They often take advantage of harvesters, because they know that they tend to be desperate for money.

If you don’t have personal relationships with the growers, harvesters AND distillers, there can be problems with quality all the way up the line. Some of the problems can be outright dishonest, with people cutting the oils. Or trying to match chemical composition with similar, but cheaper oils. And in the more destitute countries, the growers are willing to harvest out of season because they are so desperate for money. Of course this will affect quality.

Over years of not being paid enough by middlemen. And not being able to support their families year round. So, many farmers (like thousands of them) around the world, have stopped farming because of this.

Just one example of this is Pettigrain oil, sourced in Paraguay. The people there had grown this oil for decades, and couldn’t support their families anymore. They weren’t getting paid enough by the middlemen. So they started growing soy, which is sprayed by pesticides right next to their living areas.

So over recent years, they have developed respiratory and skin problems, and haven’t known why. doTERRA has helped them form cooperatives, going back to their lands with the trees that have been neglected. To harvest and distill the oil again. They have provided new distilleries, along with training and technology to help them with better growing practices to increase their yield responsibly. And they pay them year round, so they can support their families.

Healing Hands Foundation

doTERRA also has a charity arm, Healing Hands Foundation, to access if there are other needs they can help meet, like with clean water, a school, etc. And then they agree to meet very high standards of quality. The oil is tested on site, and then tested again when it gets to doTERRA’s plant in Utah, to make sure there are no contaminants.

But that is not all the testing they do. They also test all oils grown in various parts of the world. So, to make sure they meet the best chemical profile for the highest amount of therapeutic value.

So with Patchouli oil for example, there are 3 strains, 2 of which produce many flowers. But the oil does not have as high a therapeutic value. Most companies source from these strains, as they are significantly cheaper. But doTERRA gets their oil from the third strain. Which is more expensive but has higher therapeutic value. That is their highest priority when choosing plants to source from, and they test every batch to make sure that the therapeutic compounds are there in the correct amounts. This is allowing them to have the same high quality all the time.

doTERRA is even coming out with an app, where we will be able to enter the batch number and pull up the preliminary lab test on that specific batch of oil. There are many people involved in the whole process and they are making it very transparent.

doTERRA’s Highest Quality

doTERRA knew when they started, that to have the highest quality would increase the expense of production. When the executives started doTERRA, they were offered millions in venture capital. But they knew if they took it, they would not be in complete control of the company and processes which would ultimately end up affecting quality.

So they all mortgaged their homes and went without income for over a year to get the company started, and keep it debt-free. This has been a big priority for them, and now they have a program for their wellness advocates to help them become debt-free as well.

So you can see that the way companies do their sourcing, can really effect the quality of their oils, as well as change whole villages and even countries at a time for the better, by using responsible practices. This is a HUGE reason why I choose doTERRA everyday.

They source their oils responsibly and are changing the world tremendously by doing so. You may want to consider supporting responsible practices and hard-working farmers, instead of giving money to companies who use middlemen. Be on the safe side by purchasing the highest quality essential oils from doTERRA!
